Topolobampo Excursions

While you'll be docking in the port of Topolobampo, there really isn't much of touristic interest there. The real action takes place in and around the nearby cities of Los Mochis and El Fuerte, where most people begin their ride on the Copper Canyon Railway. Holland America and NCL are to be commended for making stopovers in Topolobampo and offering the following excursions.

Your ship will dock at the commercial pier in Topolobampo. All excursions will leave from the pier.

Enjoy a day "Sonoran style" as you soak up the sun at Maviri Beach, only 15 minutes from Topolobampo. The excursion also includes a lunch of mesquite-grilled fish at the area's most popular restaurant.

Visit the prosperous town of Los Mochis, where you'll view the flowers and trees of the Botanical Gardens. You'll see the local sugar mill and explore the town on a walking tour. You'll have time to shop for that perfect souvenir before heading back to the ship.

Visit a Tehuecos Indian village, then take a walking tour of the colonial city of El Fuerte, where you'll visit the famous Hotel Posada del Hidalgo, birthplace of Zorro, Mexico's fictional Robin Hood.

After a ride to the colonial town of El Fuerte, you'll board a raft and take a gentle float down a nearby river. Then you'll take a walking tour of El Fuerte, and visit the famous Hotel Posada del Hidalgo.

Visit Los Mochis and a mango plantation, plus learn how to make corn tortillas and farmer's cheese, and then take a walking tour of the Colonial town of El Fuerte, and visit the Hotel Posada del Hidalgo.

Bay, Birds & Dolphins Cruise

Enjoy a relaxing cruise aboard a 42-foot yacht. Dolphins come out to play in the bay, and you'll visit the protected Bird Island sanctuary to see the myriad bird life endemic to the region.

Visit a sugar mill to learn how sugar is grown and processed. You'll also visit a Mexican plantation that grows mangos and flowers, and visit a Mayo-Indian community specializing in artisanal breads.

Enjoy a visit to Farallon Marine Life Park Sanctuary, the "Galapagos of the Sea of Cortez," where you can swim, snorkel and interact with the local sea lion colony.

Board a chartered train on the Chihuahua Pacifico railway. You'll traverse the Sierra Madre mountain range and finally enter the Copper Canyon, rising from sea level to an altitude of over 7,200 ft.
